Erythritol is a 100% natural sweetener used in sugar-free foods. It has zero Calories and zero Glycemic Index. It does not promote tooth decay. Gum, chocolate and candy made with erythritol rather than sugar are also better for oral health.
Erythritol is 70% as sweet as sugar, though it has a similar flavour. It is virtually non-caloric, and some countries label it as such on food packaging. Erythritol is sometimes combined in foods with Stevia (250 to 450 times sweeter than sugar) due to its low sweetness.
Excessive consumption may have a laxative effect.
